What Makes a Craft Beer a Craft Beer?

R.S. Taylor & Sons - Tuesday, August 09, 2016

Although there are many definitions that may be used by different beer lovers, the Brewers Association does have guidelines that determine whether a brewery is a craft brewery.

A beer can be considered a craft beer if it comes from a brewery that is:

Small – The production of a craft brewery cannot exceed 6 million barrels of beer annually.

Independent – At least 75% of the brewery must be owned or controlled by a beverage alcohol industry member that is a craft brewer. That is, a macro brewery may not have an economic interest of more than 25% of the craft brewery.

Traditional – The craft brewery must create beers whose flavor derives from brewing ingredients and their fermentations. This does not include flavored malt beverages.

R.S. Taylor & Sons is proud to be a craft brewer in our region. Visit us to see what a craft brewery is all about!
